FOUNDER
Hawa Kader Gaye
Hawa’s journey is one of passion, purpose, and unwavering dedication. Born and raised in Senegal, West Africa, she moved to the USA in 1991 to pursue higher education, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from the University of the District of Columbia. She later completed advanced studies in Education, Psychology, and School Directorship, gaining valuable expertise that would shape her mission.
With decades of experience as a teacher, Hawa witnessed firsthand how education can transform lives. But her heart remained with the children of Senegal—especially those facing the harsh realities of poverty, neglect, and Sickle Cell Anemia. Inspired by the memory of her beloved cousin Mathurin, who tragically passed away from the disease at just five years old, she founded Mathurin Children’s Foundation in 2015.
In addition to her work with Mathurin Children’s Foundation, Hawa is now the Director of Growing Light Montessori School, where she continues to inspire children and foster a love of learning, furthering her lifelong mission of education and empowerment.
